The Three Fishes Gallery and Framing is situated in the heart of picturesque Peebles in the Scottish borders, and provides an artist-friendly framing service for the local art community, specialising in watercolour, acrylics, oils, and other media.

Our artist and framer in residence, Jim Macdonald, is happy to help with any small or large order, and understands the difficulty in finding a good quality framer at a competitive price.

Some of our customers have been kind enough to share with us their experiences of The Three Fishes Gallery

On this page we will post any review either positive or negative feedback we get.

"The Three Fishes Gallery and Framing in Peebles is a “must visit” place if you have even the slightest interest in artworks. The Gallery is stocked with a wide variety of fantastic products and the upcoming exhibition of Jim Macdonald’s highly sought after artworks, is awaited with eager anticipation.
Jim has the true artist’s eye for detail, accuracy and colours not only in the outstanding and inspirational artworks he creates, but also when framing artworks for others. I cannot speak highly enough of the finishing touches Jim does when framing my artworks – nothing is too complicated for him. I also thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to chat with Jim as he is a real hub of the art world and when I ask questions about creating art, he willingly shares his knowledge."    F.B.   Innerleithen, Scottish Borders, UK
"My wife and I came upon The Three Fishes Gallery by chance on a trip to Peebles a few years ago.  Jim's creative ideas and attention to detail have made us return to the Gallery again and again despite the fact we live in Aberdeen.
As well as having three of Jim's prints (which he also framed) hanging up at home and which are greatly admired by all who see them, he also designed and framed an MBE award and medal of a great uncle and the finished result is fabulous.  As well as being a talented artist, Jim is a friendly and knowledgeable guy who will help you in any way he can to achieve the perfect finished product."  D.R.  Aberdeen.

Before opening The Three Fishes Gallery and Framing Jim was employed by the Medical Research Council using his spare time during lunch breaks to paint and draw.

Selt taught, Jim has a distinctive Watercolour style which is much in demand by locals, passing visitors to Peebles as well as collectors from around the globe.  As a result Jim has paintings hanging in USA, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, France and Argentina to name but a few.  Jim's art includes detailed Cityscapes and Townscapes, landscapes, portraiture, musical portraits, life drawings and wildlife.  He has had recent acclaims for his equestrian art and is now very much in demand as an equestrian artist, having been commissioned to paint Olympic Gold Medalist, Scott Brash MBE on his mount, Hello Sanctos.  He has had many painting commissions from across the country.

Being an artist himself, Jim understands the importance of an aesthetically pleasing and complementary bespoke framing of artwork.  The correct frame not on enhances the artwork but it protects it from dust, dirt and environmental damage. With over 18 years of framing a wide range of pieces from Uri Geller spoons, Golden Eagle feathers to concert tickets; Jim has framed just about everything. He believes that every bespoke frame should be an individual work of art in itself, not something mass produced.  Jim offers a highly personal service to all his customer to ensure that they are completely happy with their choice.

Jim is always happy to talk about Art Commissions. If you are interested in commissioning Jim to produce a piece of art for you then contact him via email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or telephone 01721 720860.
